Trump requires the arrest of former FBI director James Comey

President Trump has called for the arrest of former FBI director James Comey after Comey made comments on the investigation against Russia before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Trump: "Should be arrested immediately!"

Comey appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday to ask questions about his handling of the FBI's role in the Russia investigation.

In response to a tweet from DC journalist Paul Sperry who stated that Comey had said the investigation was "according to the book", President Trump tweeted Wednesday afternoon that Comey "should be arrested immediately!"

Graham: "Somebody has to go to jail or get fired"

Although Comey defended himself and his team with his "by the book" claims, the former FBI director admitted to the Senate committee that mistakes had been made.

NPR reports that Comey told lawmakers that if he had known then what he knows now, he would have been "more skeptical" of one of the top surveillance requests addressed to a junior election worker for President Trump in 2016.

Lindsey Graham, chairman of the panel, said "someone goes to jail or needs to be fired" because the FBI processed the application process for the Carter Page arrest warrant, one of the main points of the investigation.

Despite admitting errors, Comey continued to defend the entire investigation to lawmakers, claiming it was duly justified and that all parties involved behaved with the utmost professionalism.

Senator Ted Cruz disagreed with Comey's rosy view of the investigation.

Cruz argued that the investigation represents a scarlet letter about the history of the famous law enforcement agency:

Senator Ted Cruz to Comey:

“This has done serious harm to the professionals and the honorable men and women in the FBI, as law enforcement should not be a political weapon. This is the legacy you left. "

Senator Mike Lee also piled up, claiming Comey didn't really know what was going on.

Comey attacks Barr for investigative criticism

CNN reported that Comey took a far stronger stance on Attorney General William Barr's criticism of the Russia investigation.

Barr had called the investigation "hideous".

"I have no idea what in the world he's talking about," Comey said. He added:

This was an investigation that was appropriately predicted and opened and needed to be opened. It was mostly carried out in the right way, picked up by the special adviser, indicted dozens of people and a finding by your Senate colleagues that the head of Trump's campaign posed a serious counter-espionage threat to the United States because he forwarded information to a well-known Russian intelligence officer.

"The idea that the attorney general believes this was an illegitimate investigation that is mystifying me," Comey added.

President Trump appears to agree with Bill Barr.
