Speaking of the doctors' press conference outside Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, CNN host Jake Tapper said, "Some interesting comments from Commander Conley, who had an impeccable reputation prior to this episode."

"He was asked why he didn't provide all the information yesterday and said he was trying to reflect the team's optimistic attitude and not provide information that would guide the course of his illness," he added.

"Is that what a doctor should do?" Asked Tapper.

Gupta replied, “No. I mean you have to be honest You need to be transparent – all of these details are important. I mean, he's out and he's coming out to let the public know about the president. This is the briefing that is taking place. If you are going to do that, you have to be absolutely honest. And it wasn't just some kind of optimistic attitude. "

"He was – it was deliberately misleading yesterday on a very fundamental issue, namely whether or not the president was consuming supplemental oxygen is one of those issues," Gupta continued.

“It's important, Jake, because if you look at patients the way doctors do them, we know his age, we know his pre-existing risk factors. You can start assessing his risk immediately as more data goes into these types of risk stratification changes, ”he said.

Gupta added, "If he needed oxygen it definitely indicates that there was some impact, significant impact on his lungs, and that puts him on a different trajectory."

Jake Tapper then wrote down his own experiences from a family of doctors.

"I'm the son of a doctor and a nurse, and I understand the public's propensity to believe doctors," said Tapper. "We want to believe doctors."

"We must also note that there is a long and ugly history in this country where presidents are not being honest about their health when the American people and doctors are used as part of this cover-up," Tapper continued.

"A hundred years ago it was Woodrow Wilson, FDR, John F. Kennedy, Ronald Reagan and so on and so forth," said the CNN host.

Gupta: "I have to say that you are hiding things, Jake."

Tapper concluded, "It's why when I interviewed Joe Biden and got him to make a pledge, I would always be informed in real time about all aspects of his health."

"We're not getting that from Donald Trump and his team at the moment," said Tapper. “We don't get all of the facts. Why?"

Gupta replied, "Well, you know, I have to say that they are hiding things Jake. I hate to say it."

Gupta went on to pedal the unsubstantiated theory that President Trump is sicker than he allows for the rest of the weekend. He did so even though he had never examined the President himself and did not know firsthand what his medical status might be.

"I think the president is sicker than the doctors allow," Sanjay Gupta said on CNN today.
