A top advisor to President Donald Trump's campaign said Wednesday that he tested positive for the coronavirus six days after attending a controversial press conference led by Trump's attorney Rudy Giuliani.
Boris Epshteyn's disclosure of the Covid-19 diagnosis came when Giuliani, the Trump attorney who chaired this news conference, went to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania to hold a Pennsylvania Senate majority committee hearing on the state elections.
Giuliani's son Andrew, who also attended his father's press conference at the Republican National Committee headquarters in Washington on Thursday, announced last Friday that he tested positive for the coronavirus. Andrew Giuliani is a Special White House Assistant to Trump.
The Gettysburg hearing will be held the day after Pennsylvania confirms the election results, which show a victory for Democratic President-elect Joe Biden, former Democratic Vice President.
Epshteyn said in a tweet, "I have mild symptoms and am following all appropriate protocols including quarantine and contact tracing."
Jenna Ellis, a senior campaign legal advisor who also attended the press conference, tweeted about half an hour before Epshteyn's tweet that she had "traveled to Gettysburg, PA" with @RudyGiuliani.
The campaign has said the hearing, which will be convened by Republican state senators, will hear testimony from individuals who have tabled affidavits claiming they were aware of electoral fraud.
Epshteyn, a former Trump special assistant, was very close physically to Giuliani and Ellis during the press conference when these two attorneys and then campaign attorney Sidney Powell made sweeping allegations of electoral fraud for which they have provided no evidence.
During this press conference, Rudy Giuliani sweated so much that hair dye apparently ran down both cheeks.
Giuliani is leading the Trump campaign's legal effort to challenge the results of voting results in multiple states in an attempt to undo Biden's proposed victory in the electoral college.
Legal experts have given these efforts little chance of success.
On Saturday, a federal judge in Pennsylvania who is a retired Republican official brutally dismissed Giuliani's arguments in a lawsuit aimed at blocking certification of the state's voting, saying they were "without merit".
The Trump campaign and its allies have lost or withdrawn around 36 legal voting and voting process challenges across the country.
Biden is currently expected to win 306 votes, 36 more than necessary to claim a victory in the White House.
Gettysburg is the site of the most famous battle in the US Civil War. For three days in July 1863, Union forces defeated treacherous Confederate forces led by Robert E. Lee, foiling their attempt to invade the north.
Four months later, President Abraham Lincoln, a Republican, held the famous Gettysburg address on the battlefield and urged his listeners to act so that "these dead have not died in vain, that this nation will have a new birth under God of freedom, and this government of the people by the people for the people will not perish from the earth.
