Rachel Maddow said one of the best things the American people can do right now to keep themselves and their families safe amid this raging pandemic is to ignore Donald Trump and listen to health officials.
"Ignore the President," said the MSNBC host. "Ignore what's going on with this circus."
Maddow pointed to a new document from the White House's Coronavirus Task Force that raises the alarm about the dire situation the United States is currently in when it comes to the spread of COVID-19.
"What the Coronavirus Task Force at the White House is dictating to public health officials in the state right now coincides with when the National Hurricane Center is capitalizing those warnings, telling people that if they don't, they will definitely die evacuate before the approaching storm, ”Maddow said.
Instead of paying attention to Trump while he continues to provoke tantrums over the elections, the American people should heed warnings from health officials.

I can tell you what the White House is – ignoring the President, right? Ignore what's going on with this circus. What the Coronavirus Task Force at the White House is dictating to public health officials in the states right now coincides with when the National Hurricane Center is capitalizing those warnings, telling people that if they are not in, they will definitely die Evacuate the oncoming storm in advance. This is now coming to the states from the coronavirus task force. Look at that. NBC News received this last night. I know you may have seen quotes from it, but we finally got the document itself. And this is the forefront of new recommendations from the COVID Task Force at the White House to public health officials in the states. It says that. "If state and local policies do not reflect the gravity of the current situation, all public health officials must alert the state population directly." Look at this language. “It needs to be made clear that if you are over 65 years of age or have significant health problems, you should not enter indoor public spaces where people are exposed because of the imminent health risk. You should have food and medicine delivered. If you are under 40 years of age, assume you got infected during Thanksgiving season when you gathered outside of your immediate household. Most likely you won't have any symptoms. However, they are dangerous to others. You need to stay away from people at increased risk of serious illness. They need to be tested immediately. … We are in a very dangerous place due to the extremely high COVID baseline right now and limited hospital capacity. Another Thanksgiving surge will affect COVID patient care as well as overall medical care.
Wear a mask, practice social distancing – and stop listening to Donald Trump
With record highs daily cases and deaths, the United States' public health crisis is at its worst. As MSNBC's Joy Reid noted Thursday, one American dies from COVID every 30 seconds.
In the next few weeks – as the Thanksgiving virus surge hits full ground – Americans can do best to wear a mask, restrict travel, practice social distancing, and pay no attention to Donald Trump.
All of these actions, while small, can save a life.
