Democratic MP Tulsi Gabbard responded after being targeted by progressives over her law protecting women in sport from competing against transgender women – biological men – in school sport.
Congresswoman Gabbard introduced the Women's Sports Protection Act as a draft bill in the House last week.
Gabbard slammed by the left for "transphobia"
The bill states that the protection of Title IX will be based on biological sex rather than identified sex, thereby ensuring that biological men cannot compete against biological women, even if they are identified as women.

Gabbard was criticized for this from the left and classified as transphobic and bigoted.
"Tulsi Gabbard is now introducing a blatantly transphobic law aimed at trans and non-binary young people," tweeted trans activist Charlotte Clymer.
"Of course, this is hardly surprising to a Republican," she added.

Tulsi Gabbard has introduced laws banning federal funding of schools that allow transgender girls, women, and non-binary people to compete on sports teams that match their gender identity.
This is "obviously transphobic" and unacceptable. https://t.co/p7QDuyR2n5

Tulsi slams critics – "My calculation is based on science"
In a series of tweets, Gabbard defended himself against allegations of bigotry from the left.
She argued that what she did was simply ensuring that girls and women could compete "on an equal footing" in sport.
"The rejection of biological differences between men and women undermines the reason Title IX was created in the first place," she added.
"My Protect Women & # 39; s Sports Act is based on science," said Gabbard.
“Title IX was created out of the recognition of a biological distinction between men and women and the need to ensure that women and girls have equal opportunities to compete on an equal footing in sport. My bill confirms and strengthens the original intent of Title IX. That's all."
Gabbard added her position and explained it in an 8-minute video posted on Twitter, where she set out her reasoning in more detail.
"Let's face it, there are some people who oppose my bill … because they don't like Title IX at all, and they don't like Title IX because it is based on this recognition of the biological distinction between men and women," she argued.
“But it is a science-based fact that there is such a thing as a man and a woman. It's common sense too. So it is the height of the hypocrisy for those who claim to stand up for the right of women to deny that there is even a woman biologically who denies the very biological distinction that makes women women and not men. "

Tulsi Gabbard: Not your average Democrat
Gabbard was further criticized from the left for her unorthodox views within the Democratic Party.
While she still holds many left-wing positions, particularly on economic issues, she is not your standard democrat.
Last week she also introduced laws that "ensure that a health practitioner has the right level of care in the event of a child who survives an abortion or attempted abortion," a very life-friendly position for a Democrat.
Tulsi Gabbard also introduced Born Alive legislation that protects infants who survive an abortion. I'm waiting for Tulsi to find out that she belongs to the GOP. https://t.co/E6Kj9bBdjS

She also stood up against Andrew Cuomo's religious coronavirus restrictions in New York and appealed to President Trump to apologize for Julian Assange and Edward Snowden for exposing "the deception and crime of those in the deep state".
. @ realDonaldTrump In granting pardons to the people, you should consider pardoning those who, at great personal sacrifice, exposed the deception and crime of those in the deep state. https://t.co/aeXklUsNSd
