Dr. Anthony Fauci spoke on Wednesday about the centuries-old tradition of individualism and freedom in America making the COVID-19 pandemic in that country worse.
Fauci pops America’s individualistic story
Fauci was asked by the Washington Post whether the surge in cases in the United States was due to America’s individualistic tradition or to President Donald Trump’s refusal to seek national mandates. He responded by saying that “the independent spirit of the people in the United States who refused to adhere to public health policies has certainly hurt us a little”.
Fauci also complained that there are people who treat the coronavirus like a “joke”.
“There are people in different parts of the country who still believe that [coronavirus] is joking that it is fake – even when the hospitals in their own state are overcrowded with patients in hospital beds and in intensive care, “Fauci said.

Fauci asks the Americans to stay home for Christmas
Not stopping there, Fauci asked the American people not to gather for Christmas this year and said he and his wife would not even take their adult children in for the holidays.
“You won’t be coming home… It’s painful. We don’t like that, ”he said. “But that’s just one of the things you have to accept as we go through this unprecedentedly challenging period.”
Instead of spending this Christmas together, Fauci urged Americans and their families to focus on the meaning of future Christmases.

“You are trying to explain: you will have a lot more Christmas ahead of you,” he said. “You have enjoyed Christmas a lot more. Perhaps this is a time to just say, “This is an unusual situation, it won’t last forever.”

Fauci added that it was “very likely” that the country “will be back to normal by Christmas”.
“So make the choice and keep yourself and your family healthy so you have a lot more Christmas ahead of you,” he said. “That’s how I would try to argue with them.”
