Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) filmed herself receiving the first dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine on Friday evening.
AOC gets vaccine
“Hello everyone! This is how we found out last night that the COVID vaccine is available to members of Congress as part of the continuity of governance plan (basically a national security measure),” she wrote on her Instagram story. She drove continued that she would “never advise” Americans to do something she was unwilling to do herself.
“So now I’m going to my vaccination app,” added Ocasio-Cortez before posting a video in which she actually got the vaccine.

AOC reveals how she felt afterward
“After you get the shot, they put us in a room … for 15 minutes just to make sure we’re good,” she said afterwards. “(Sometimes people get a headache or dizziness in general or see blood etc, so this is just a precaution. No problems today!)”
Hours later, Ocasio-Cortez said she felt completely normal and had no side effects.
“Some people feel tired, have headaches, etc. – This is normal. Your body builds immunity, ”she said.

At one point in her story, Ocasio-Cortez addressed why politicians were given the vaccine in front of healthcare workers.
“That really surprised me, too – I expected we would get it much later,” she said, adding that health care workers have started receiving it even though “not all of them have obviously been vaccinated”.
“But when it comes to congressional access, it’s because of what’s called a continuity of governance planning,” Ocasio-Cortez said, according to People Magazine. “In principle, national security policy is on the books in order to guarantee the continuity of governance in national emergencies.”
Pelosi is vaccinated
House spokeswoman Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was also vaccinated on Friday.
“Today I received the COVID-19 vaccine with confidence in science and at the direction of the attending physician’s office,” she tweeted next to photos where she received the vaccine. “While the vaccine is being distributed, we must all keep wearing masks, social distancing, and other science-based steps to save lives and destroy the virus.”
