Biden does it once more – elects average “deficit hawks”, which is vehemently opposed by the AOC, Omar and progressives

Progressives must be furious if Bruce Reed, a moderate “deficit hawk,” is named Biden’s deputy chief of staff.

The members of the left team, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, had spoken out loudly against adding Reed to Biden’s cabinet.

Reed A “Deficit Hawk”, progressive claim

Reed, a longtime ally of Vice President Biden, was announced Tuesday by his transition team as his deputy chief of staff to the president.

Reed takes his place as another moderate (or “neo-liberal if you follow the left on Twitter) on Biden’s team, a blow to the progressives.

Reed had worked with Biden since the 1990s, including working on the 1994 bill, a bill that many leftists have labeled “racist”.

He was also attacked for being a “deficit hawk” in a petition widely and by progressive groups including the Justice Democrats supported by representatives AOC, Ilhan Omar and the rest of “The Squad” is supported.

(What on earth is a democratic “deficit hawk”?)

“Getting someone into the administration who will prioritize paying the deficit over any other responsible cause is a recipe for cutting our deserved benefits and turning the COVID recession into depression,” the petition said.

“Rejecting Reed will be a great test of the soul of the Biden presidency.”

While no progressive Democrats in the party responded to the news, leftists on Twitter have been furious about the appointment.

You can’t have Bruce Reed on your administration and pretend Social Security is safe

Bruce Reed is retiring

Whenever I see Bruce Reed’s name I think of the part of @MMFlint’s Bowling for Columbine where he showed how welfare reform of the 90s made the tragic shooting of Kayla Rowland possible in first grade. Outrageous that Reed will play a very important role in the Biden administration.

Squad members are deeply disappointed with how the new administration has turned out

Biden’s appointment of Reed is only the last in a long line of losses to Progressive Democrats.

According to Politico, progressive Democrats are now looking for a “reset” after a massively disappointing 2020.

“Progressives are like a young superstar athlete who is about to thrive but has not yet established himself as a starter, let alone an all-star,” said Max Berger, former director of progressive public relations for Elizabeth Warren’s presidential campaign.

Ilhan Omar and AOC were very concerned about Biden’s environment at the moment as he tries to build up his presidential administration.

Omar told CNN’s Ana Carbrera earlier this month that she shared Senator Bernie Sanders’ concerns that progressives would not have “a big enough seat at the table” in Biden’s cabinet, but she continued to hope their influence.

AOC was far more critical of Biden’s transition team and uttered no words when they described the team, which consists of corporate executives, big tech executives, and Wall Street bankers, as simply “terrible.”

“This is not just a revolving door of private industry, it’s a revolving door of the same people for the past 10, 20, 30 years at a time when this is like emerging populism,” is popping up on both sides of the political spectrum, AOC said.

The American people have “an extreme disdain for this financially strong, political establishment that only rules Washington DC, no matter who you seem to vote for.”
