The political advocacy, backed by billionaire Charles Koch, is encouraging Congress to confirm President-elect Joe Biden’s victory on the electoral college.
The move comes as several of the network’s Republican beneficiaries in Congress plan to object to the results.
“Joe Biden is the president-elect and we support the process and validation of his election,” Lo Isidro, a spokesman for Koch-Backed Americans for Wealth, said in a statement.
“Our top priority is to build broad support for action to end the pandemic and get Americans on a path to recover more while working against destructive measures – and offering better alternatives – that are selling with empty promises that we know won’t work, “the statement said.
The statement comes because other business-friendly organizations, including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Business Roundtable, have been pushed back against a group of GOP senators and House members who claim to object to the results of the electoral college.
Congress will meet on Wednesday to advance certification.
The network’s stance agrees with Koch, who publicly congratulates Biden on his victory. Koch is looking forward to working with the new administration. Meanwhile, Americans for Prosperity has backed some of the lawmakers who led the crusade against the new president.
Although the network endorsed President Donald Trump’s previous guidelines, the organization had a mixed relationship with its administration and was not involved in the 2020 presidential election.
Data from the non-partisan Center for Responsive Politics shows that AFP Action, the group’s super-PAC, assisted some of the Republicans with decertification. You have also previously supported legislators who opposed such a move.
In 2020, the group backed Georgia Republican David Perdue, whose Senate term ended on Sunday, as well as Sens. Steve Daines, R-Mont., And Roger Marshall, R-Kan. The Koch-backed PAC spent over $ 20 million supporting them, and all three are against any form of Congressional certification of Biden’s victory.
Perdue is up for re-election during Tuesday’s Georgia Senate runoff election, and the network is back to back him in that race. Perdue and Senator Kelly Loeffler, R-Ga., Who are also facing a runoff election Tuesday, both support the certification challenge.
In 2018, AFP spent over $ 2 million on an ad blitz against then Senator Claire McCaskill, D-Mo. AFP Action spent an additional $ 700,000 against the veteran lawmaker. Senator Josh Hawley, R-Mo., Beat McCaskill in that election and was one of the first lawmakers to oppose confirming Biden’s Electoral College victory.
AFP Action gave over $ 3 million in support of Senator Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., Aus almost two years ago. She said she would be against certifying certain voters.
There are also some Republicans in the House of Representatives who have had support from AFP Action and are trying to derail the results of the presidential election.
The Campaigns of Representatives Scott Franklin, R-Fla .; Byron Donalds, R-Fla., And Ted Budd, RN.C., received over $ 550,000 total from AFP. All three have announced that they will object to Biden’s victory.
