The majority of Americans support the recall of President Donald Trump after he instigated an attack against Congress. This emerges from the latest survey by Morning Consult / Politico.
53 percent of voters support the House’s impeachment process, which began this morning. Impeachment proceedings are expected to be passed and sent to the Senate. 54 percent say the Senate should convict Trump of insurrection against Congress and remove him from office.
90 percent of Democrats say they support impeachment, while 80 percent of Republicans say they oppose it, indicating a sharp divide along the party lines. 47 percent of independents say they support the indictment and dismissal of the president. 38 percent reject the procedure and 15 percent did not comment on this issue.
The president’s approval and disapproval ratings also stand in stark contrast to previous polls, a sign that the uprising has divided voters like no issue before or since.
“While perceptions of the president deteriorated among Independents, the decline was largely due to a 15-point drop in Trump’s net approval rating – the proportion that approves minus the proportion that disapproves – among Republican voters who support the president was largely unshakable over the course of his four-year tenure, ”notes Morning Consult, who conducted the survey between January 8th and 10th.
The data intelligence company added: “Twenty-one percent of Republican voters said they disapprove of Trump’s job performance, up 7 points, while 77 percent agree with how he handles the job, including 50 percent who do so strongly. Those numbers are among Trump’s worst GOP voters since taking office. They were only surpassed by polls conducted in August 2017 amid turmoil over his response to the deadly clashes in Charlottesville, Virginia and Republicans’ failure to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act. “
