There is ample reason for climate activists to want strong unions and to need more Democrats to pass climate laws. War mobilization is a common reference point for Green New Deal proponents. Even the Biden administration appeals to the nostalgia of a booming manufacturing economy by, for example, describing plans to manufacture American-made electric vehicles. The automakers that could do this have moved many of their operations south in the past few decades in search of weaker labor laws and cheaper wages – or out of the country entirely.
If the booming production of electric cars were the tip of the spear of a green recovery – and it is innumerable reasons to be careful, much of this production could well be in non-union operations that barely provide the kind of mid-century imagination that war production suggests. Tesla, the country’s best-known electric car maker, is run by an anti-union fanatic already injured the National Labor Relations Act. “Lots of people complain about job losses in manufacturing, but the truth is that you can have a good union job in any industry as long as you unionize it.” [said Lee Carter, Virginia House of Delegates member and gubernatorial candidate whose HB 1755 would repeal the state’s 75-year-old right-to-work law]. “T.The new lost cause, like yesterday’s lost cause, uses lies to disguise the desperate and pathetic effort to maintain white supremacy as a valiant struggle for a noble end. Hence the apparently ridiculous claim that the elections were stolen and democracy at risk, a likely story that downplays the beliefs of the white supremacists Presidential election victory delivered of black Voters is by nature counterfeit. ” ~~ Kali Holloway2021
BLAST FROM THE PAST
That day at Daily Kos in 2012– Compare your income and tax rate with Mitt Romney:
Slate created a Romney Income Calculator that can help us figure out how many hours or days it took Mitt Romney 2010 to reach our incomes, and it’s fun to put in different numbers to get multiple perspectives on how ridiculously rich Romney is is.
For example, in 2010 it took Mitt Romney 10 hours and 40 minutes to earn the median individual income of $ 26,400. It took him 16 hours and nine minutes to earn the median income of $ 39,959. It took him three days, eight hours, and 53 minutes to make the $ 200,000 that by some standards will put you under the top 1 percent. or five days, 19 hours, and seven minutes to earn the $ 344,000 other means that put you below the top 1 percent.
And don’t forget how much more money Romney makes than you, he most likely pays a lower tax rate too. So make your next stop at DNC’s Romney tax calculator to compare your tax rate to Romney’s and find out how different your taxes would be if you paid at the rate it does. (Excludes the cost of any accountants and lawyers that he pays to avoid paying taxes.)
How long does it take Mitt Romney to earn your income and how much would you save in taxes if you paid just 13.9 percent like him?
