Biden appears to be withdrawing – says he’ll “restore what beforehand existed” on the border

When asked by a reporter on Sunday what could be done about the chaos on the southern border, President Joe Biden gave a very interesting answer.

“Much more,” he replied. “We are in the process of doing this, including making sure we restore what was there before. That means they can stay in place and take their case from their home country.”

Restoring Trump-era border policies would be a staggering reversal of Biden’s early days in office, when some of his first priorities were to reset the former administration’s migrant protection protocols (MPPs) used by immigrants to attempt to cross the border illegally in camps Mexico awaits hearings.

The Biden government decided to return to the “catch and release” policy, which allows illegal immigrants to enter the United States

The Biden administration was in no way ready to handle a surge on the border

According to a study by Pew Research, around 16,000 cross-border commuters were affected in April 2020. In February 2020 that number exploded to 100,000 in February alone.

In a report by Fox Business, the Biden administration placed ICE on a $ 89.6 million contract to provide hotel rooms and processing services that were not removed from the United States but instead embroiled in immigration proceedings.

The contract, which was published through Endeavors in Texas, will also include comprehensive health assessments. This includes COVID-19 tests, victim services, therapeutic regiments, educational resources and psychosocial care.

According to the Customs and Border Protection (CBP), 7,000 migrant families were arrested in January, and that number rose to 19,000 in February.

5,000 migrants cross our borders every day. How many have Covid19? How many can we accommodate? It’s a crisis.

Crisis? What crisis?

As the situation on the southern border continues to deteriorate, no one in the Biden government will call it a crisis. Even a Washington Post report criticized the government for being warned of the impending spike but still unprepared and unable to deal with it.

DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas will only go so far as to say: “The Biden government is well on the way to meeting more people on the southwestern border than in the last 20 years.”

Mayorkas added that many of the unaccompanied minors crossing the border already have family members or guardians in the US

“More than 80 percent of the time, the child has a family member in the United States. In more than 40 percent of the cases, that family member is a parent or legal guardian. These are children who will be reunited with their families and will take care of them, ”he said.

Amid declarations by the Biden administration to be “more humane” about immigration policies, they have continued a quiet and controversial Trump-era action known as Title 42. This little-heard policy stems from a 1944 Public Health Act that aims to indefinitely close the line on non-essential travel. It stays in place because of COVID. In a statement on the border, Secretary Mayorkas says:

“The majority of those arrested on the southwest border are single adults currently being expelled under the supervision of the CDC to help manage the public health crisis of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to this agency under Title 42 of the United States Code, single adults from Mexico and the countries of the Northern Triangle of El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras are being expelled rapidly to Mexico. “

However, according to a report in the Los Angeles Times, the Biden administration relies heavily on Title 42.

CNN anchor Poppy Harlow says the Biden admin knew the ramifications for reversing Title 42 and that they should be prepared for the surge in migrants at the border

Of course, Democrats blame Trump

Democrats across all branches of government have, of course, blamed former President Trump for the chaos they are now seeing on the border. They claim that Trump did not work with the Biden transition team and that they “inherited a mess”.

An unnamed official said: “When we got into office it was a disaster. I’m serious. The staff was not available, the structures were not in place. “

Former CBP commissioner Mark Morgan told CNN, however, that the Biden administration “has been warned repeatedly”. Morgan went on to say that officials even forecast an increase in traffic on the southern border if Trump policy were lifted.

If the crisis deepens, Biden may sign some Executive Orders to reinstate the guidelines he signed from Executive Orders.
