President Joe Biden took to Twitter to announce that all American adults can now receive the Covid-19 vaccine.

“Folks, I have good news,” he said in a video posted on his official account. “As of today, everyone is eligible to receive the vaccine.”

“We have enough of this, you need to be protected and you in turn need to protect your neighbors and your family,” he added. “So please, get the vaccine.”

Biden announced earlier this month that every adult in the country would be eligible for the Covid-19 vaccine by April 19, two weeks before the previous appointment, May 1.

So far, more than 209 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have been administered across the country, according to the CDC official COVID data tracker. Just under 26% of the total population is already fully vaccinated, and this number is expected to increase significantly in the coming weeks as more vaccines become available.

Despite these gains, Americans are still urged to wear masks and practice social distancing. The coronavirus is still a threat until enough people are vaccinated. More than 567,000 Americans have died of Covid-19 since the pandemic started last spring Data from Johns Hopkins University of Medicine.
