Ted Cruz’s current simple dishonesty: “You did not see us making an attempt to seize the courtroom.”

That’s how you get such nonsense.

For the non-tweeters:

CRUZ: “You didn’t see Republicans when we were in control of the Senate trying to rig the game. They didn’t see us trying to grab the dish. “

Good god in heaven, man. No, you weren’t literally trying to add seats in the Supreme Court. They were too busy stealing the existing ones. Merrick Garland works right down the street from you, Ted. Maybe ask him how it went. As if you don’t remember

Incidentally, Cruz agreed to downsize the court when he believed Hillary Clinton was ready to name a replacement for Antonin Scalia.

From a Politico story from October 2016:

“There will be plenty of time for debate on this … There is certainly a long historical precedent for a Supreme Court with fewer judges. I would only recently find that justice [Stephen] Breyer noted that the vacancy does not affect the court’s ability to do its job. This is a debate we will have, “Cruz said in comments first reported by the Washington Post.

It was unlikely that Cruz would vote for a Democratic candidate based on his conservative ideology, but his remarks could indicate a wider shift within the GOP to deter the Democrats from shifting the court’s balance to the left. Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.) Said the GOP would be “united” to block a Clinton appointment earlier this month, he later notes.

He also went out of his way to lubricate the runners for Amy Coney Barrett, which was confirmed in October 2020. Oh that’s interesting. Like a week before the election. Yet Ted and his boob brigade thought there was something awkward about occupying Scalia’s seat so close to a presidential election, and thought President Obama’s nomination of Merrick Garland was … oh, here are … 293 days.

Apparently, Republicans think if they are not grotesque hypocrites they will cease to exist. Unfortunately for the rest of us, they seem determined never to test this theory.
