Stacey Abrams claims Republicans suppress voters for “existential panic”

Failed Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams launched another attack on Republicans Thursday when she appeared on MSNBC. This time, she claimed that they were suppressing the right to vote because of an “existential panic” after Georgia took electoral integrity measures.

“It is breathtaking to see the many laws and ways that Republicans throw in front of voters,” said host Joy Reid. “If you look at it as someone who was a politician who was an elected official, is this a direct, racist attempt to reconfigure the electorate, or is it more GOTV [Get Out The Vote]? Part of me thinks part of it is GOTV. “

“I actually think it’s more of an existential panic, cowardice and laziness,” Abrams replied. “What you saw in the last election is a confluence of possibilities. Color communities that had largely not fully realized their power became part of the electorate. “

“Young people, most of whom remained at a lower level, took part in the elections,” she added. “And because of COVID, more Americans, especially the most vulnerable and disadvantaged Americans, have understood that there are alternatives to voting, and they have.”

“Rather than grappling with and grappling with what it means to have a more engaged and expanded electorate, instead work as hard as you can to not only throw those stones, but to get it to the point to bring this GOTV strategy to use Create their own boogieman for their constituents, ”Abrams continued.

Abrams doubles

“At the same time, they are expressing hostility towards the communities that changed the outcome in 2020 and 2021, and that is largely communities of color,” she concluded. “So racial animation is absolutely a part of it. But I think overall it’s an existential crisis and existential panic that leads to the tactic that has worked well for so many other parties and that is suppressing voters. “
