Republican governors of around 20 states are calling for the Biden administration to take decisive action against the ongoing crisis on the US-Mexico border, particularly the overwhelming number of unaccompanied minors crossing the border and placing them where they should be.
In a letter to President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, the governors of not only border states, but also states such as North and South Dakota and New Hampshire describe the situation as “unacceptable and unsustainable.”
In the letter, the governors also say: “The crisis is too great to ignore and is now spreading to the border states in all of our states.”
CBP officials met 178,000 migrants on the southern border in April, including 17,171 unaccompanied minors and over 111,000 single adults.

The numbers could continue to rise
Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) arrested 172,000 immigrants who entered the US illegally in March.
Almost 19,000 unaccompanied minors, the largest number in a month in history. It is predicted that things could get worse over the course of the summer months.
While the Biden government tries to remove children from overcrowded border facilities, HHS has asked states to look into possible housing conditions. The inability to accommodate large numbers of people is a good part of the Republican governors’ call to action.
Rep. Henry Cuellar on the illegal alien program in Biden: “What you are doing now is take the kids from the Border Patrol tents to the HHS facility next door. With all due respect, it’s all a shell game. “Https://t.co/m85TxLatBD

In the letter, the governors addressed the seemingly open border policy of the Biden government: “This government has attracted an onslaught of migrants to our border and stimulated an influx of illegal crossings by using irresponsible rhetoric and reversing a number of guidelines – from hiring the construction of the border wall to eliminate asylum agreements and refuse to enforce immigration laws. “
The letter goes on to say: “We have neither the resources nor the obligation to solve the problem of the federal government and to pay the bill for the consequences of the misguided actions of this government.”

Other problems that accompany the unaccompanied
The governors echoed what Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said when he said of illegal immigrants: “They see him as the migrant president and so many believe they will reach the United States. We need to work together to regulate the flow as this business cannot be tackled overnight. “
In the letter, governors also addressed drugs and human trafficking, both of which have increased along the southern border.
“Law enforcement officers are bringing back drugs, illegal narcotics and weapons smuggled across the border by cartels – the same cartels that trade men, women and children and put their lives at risk. At a time when our country is trying to recover from a one-off pandemic, the last thing we need is a self-inflicted crisis that exploits families, undermines public security and threatens our national security. We urge you to take action to end the humanitarian crisis and secure our southern border immediately. “
The letter states that the number of fentanyl seizures has increased by nearly 233% compared to January 2020.
There are a record number of migrant children in HHS detention, over 185,000 migrants have escaped CBP concerns, CBP has arrested terrorism watch list suspects who have illegally crossed the border, and fentanyl seizures have increased 233%.
This is the #BidenBorderCrisis.

Republicans and Democrats point fingers at each other
Democrats were quick to blame the Trump administration for the border situation.
Republicans argue that the Biden administration wasted no time on Trump-era policies and agreements, like the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP), that keep immigrants in Mexico while they await hearings and asylum deals with Central American countries take back.
Republicans also cite the increasingly immigrant-friendly rhetoric of the Biden government, encouraging migrants to make the journey north.
In March, Biden appointed Vice President Kamala Harris to tackle the illegal immigration crisis, but neither Biden nor Harris need to visit the area to see firsthand the situation.
Harris is expected to visit Mexico and Guatemala in June to discuss the “root causes” of the surge in migration to the US
The governors who signed the letter to the president also cite the negligent immigration policy of the Biden government.
“The cause of the border crisis lies exclusively in the ruthless reversals of federal policy that were carried out within your first 100 days in office. The rhetoric of the Biden government and the withdrawal of critical agreements with our allies have resulted in the inhuman treatment of tens of thousands of children and undermined a fragile immigration system. “
