The GOP committee asks if the Democrats wish to cancel the queen. Uh, we have already achieved that. In 1776

Take a look at this gormlessness:

The Woke Cancel culture mob continues to call the voter ID racist.

Again we canceled the queen. Or rather one of its predecessors. It was in all the papers. Hard to believe they missed it. I’m not an expert on British civil rights struggles, but I don’t think your country has the same terrible history of repressive Jim Crow-type laws as we do. If you want to make it harder for people of color to choose in this country, you better have a damn good reason. Of course, Republicans have no damn good reason – or no reason at all – because their new election restrictions are solutions to a problem that just doesn’t exist. Personal electoral fraud is extremely rare. This is useful when you think about it. Your vote is extremely unlikely to result in any particular election, even in a voting race. However, if you try to vote twice or cast a vote for a dead person, you are likely to face a crime for doing so caught. Why would you ever try something that is ruthless and inconsiderate at the same time? As you may have guessed, all they say is bullshit.

Aaron Blake, who writes for The Fix for the Washington Post, sums it up:

Queen Elizabeth II on Tuesday gave the “Queen’s Speech” by setting the agenda for Parliament. This year’s speech had a notable inclusion: a move to require a voter ID in UK elections.

A number of prominent allies of former President Donald Trump were quick to welcome the move. They did this not only because Britain is moving towards something that Democrats have derided as voter suppression, but because it was the queen behind it, of all people. Her argument: how could it be racist if it’s the queen?

“Really?” How can it be racist when it’s the queen? The head of a hereditary monarchy who claimed their position due to a birth accident (and abdication) couldn’t possibly be racist? For sure.

More importantly, however, this is not the Queen’s policy. It was Boris Johnson’s.

The problem? The queen’s speech is not a statement of the personal political views of the monarchy or even the queen. Indeed, the monarchy generally stays away from such things. It is a speech prepared by the party responsible for the UK government, which is currently the Conservative Party led by Prime Minister Boris Johnson. The Queen reads the speech, but this is not her political agenda.

Yup. Queen Elizabeth II is a figurehead who reads what lies before her. In that regard, she is essentially the English Ron Burgundy.

Nor is it that liberals and proxies across the pond are all Kool & the Gang with this decision. As Dr. Jess Garland, director of policy and research for the UK Electoral Reform Society, writes in The Guardian …

Suggestions for introduction mandatory voter IDAs revealed in the Queen’s speech today, it is a dangerous attack on our democratic rights that could result in millions of legitimate voters being excluded from polling stations on polling day. It is estimated that the proposals could cost up to £ 20 million per election to implement, a high price to pay for unnecessary politics and an expensive diversion from the real problems that affect our democracy and our country on a larger scale.

But hey, being a Republican means putting on a dishonest clown show. And instead of terrorizing young children at birthday parties, they come for all of us.

The question: are we ready?

It made comedians Sarah Silverman say “That’s damn brilliant” and author prompted Stephen King call “Pulitzer Prize !!!” (on Twitter, then). What is it?
