35 House Republicans have teamed up with Democrats to pass bill that would create an independent commission to investigate the 1/6 attack on the Capitol.
The final vote took place between 252 and 175 to form the commission.
Unfortunately, those Republicans of the House were offset by the rest of their colleagues who voted for a cover-up and refused to find out the full story of the attack on the Capitol.
The vast majority of Republicans in the House were cowards protecting Trump’s big lie and the now-criminally investigated former president at the expense of the truth and health of US democracy.
The bill was passed in the House of Representatives, but Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans are so scared that an investigation could increase their chances of winning back the Senate majority in 2022 that they refuse to endorse it.
Democrats should already be considering ways to create this commission without Republican support. House and Senate Democrats rightly argued that they are protecting democracy by indicting Donald Trump a second time.
Republicans don’t want Americans to know the truth. So it is up to the Democrats to use their power to make sure they know what happened on January 6, 2021 and who is responsible for it.
