On Tuesday, President Joe Biden traveled to Michigan, where he praised Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI) as “honorable”, although backlash against using a private jet on a secret trip to Florida continues to grow.
Biden praises Whitmer
“You have a backbone like a ramrod,” Biden said of Whitmer when speaking at the Ford Motor Company’s Dearborn electric vehicle plant, according to Deadline Detroit.
“You have a brain as big as anyone else in business. And you are so honorable, ”he continued from the Democratic governor. “It is a pleasure to know you. As I told you before, I will fight for you or against you, whatever will help you the most. “
Whitmer is up for re-election next year should she choose to run again.

Whitmer’s private jet scandal
Whitmer has faced a number of scandals over the past year, the latest revolving around the details of her secret trip to Florida. Whitmer initially claimed that her trip was strictly “personal” to visit her ailing father, who owns a property in West Palm Beach.
“I said everything I will say about my trip to check on my father,” Whitmer told a reporter last week when asked about the trip, according to CNBC. “It was a short trip. It was an important family reason for this. And I have nothing to add. “
“I showed up when I was needed. I cooked a lot, cleaned a lot, ”added Whitmer. “When you’re the Michigan governor, you’re always in the know, but that doesn’t mean you’re not a daughter who shows up when a family member needs her.”

Whitmer comes clean
However, since then Whitmer’s office has admitted that under 501 (c) (4) their organization paid for the flight, which would require some organization-related activity. Michigan Rising Action released a statement after it was learned that it would not have been allowed to use charitable funds for the activity if the trip had been strictly personal, as Whitmer claimed.
“501 (c) (4) groups are social welfare organizations and are not allowed to pay personal expenses for civil servants,” the group said in a statement.
“Today’s revelations that Whitmer’s nonprofit paid for her personal trip to Florida are shady and make it clear why they tried to hide the trip and cover up who paid,” added Tori Sachs, former Michigan executive director Rising Action, too.
“Either Whitmer’s Florida trip served a legitimate 501 (c) (4) purpose, in which case the c4 could pay for it, or it was personal, in which case a c4 couldn’t pay for it,” she added added. “Whitmer’s personal use of her 501 (c) (4) balance needs to be investigated.”
