Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill on Monday that would allow individuals to sue social media companies if they are censored and fines big tech companies if they get elected officials from their platforms to ban.
The Republican argued that the new legislation will rule in the “takeover of language, thought, and content” of the big tech industry.
“At this meeting, we took steps to ensure that ‘We the People’ – real Floridians across the Sunshine State – provide guaranteed protection against the Silicon Valley elites,” DeSantis said in a statement.
“When big tech censors inconsistently enforce rules to discriminate in favor of the prevailing Silicon Valley ideology, they will now be held accountable.”
DeSantis tweeted that the bill will improve the playing field between citizens and celebrities, many of whom have a free hand to voice liberal misinformation without fear of being off the platform.
Today the Floridians are guaranteed protection against the seizure of power of language, thoughts and content in Silicon Valley. We, the people, stand up against tech totalitarianism by signing Florida’s Big Tech Bill. https://t.co/cDewFJiEPk

DeSantis takes over big tech and social media
During the press conference to announce the bill against large tech and social media companies, DeSantis got into a heated exchange with a reporter who asked if he was doing the bidding of former President Donald Trump.

The Florida governor responded by saying that there is something seriously wrong if someone like the Supreme Leader of Iran is allowed to make death threats with impunity but the President of the United States has his voice taken away.
“The bill is for everyday Floridians, that’s what we said, and it will allow any Floridian to deliver what they do,” DeSantis retorted.
“But I think that’s another issue that has been brought up: if you take the President of the United States off the platform and let Ayatollah Khomeini talk about killing Jews, that’s wrong,” he added as a crowd at the press conference cheered and gave him a standing ovation.
Florida’s Big Tech Bill is for everyday Floridians. We know there is a problem when BIG TECH DEPLOY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, but they let AYATOLLAH KHAMENEI talk about killing Jews – this is wrong!

The conservative warrior continues to fight
DeSantis continues to position himself as the leading candidate for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024. This bill is another arrow in the quiver when it comes to gaining support from conservative voters who view him as a fighter like Trump.
Earlier this month, amid mounting pressures across the country to disappoint the men and women who work in law enforcement, DeSantis announced earlier this month that its state would be granting $ 1,000 bonuses to police officers, firefighters and paramedics.
Some want to disappoint the police.
In Florida, we’re funding them and a few more by giving all of our heroes $ 1,000 bonuses. That’s the equivalent of more than 174,000 first responders across the state!

DeSantis said police officers and first responders did not have the luxury of staying at home during the pandemic, despite being badly maligned in the media and by Democrats.
“They were out there every day, our police, our fire, our rescue workers, and they had to work harder than ever to not only protect us when the pandemic hit, but the way the police were treated last year was complete shame and they had to put on the uniform, ”he said.
DeSantis also signed an anti-riot law last month that increases penalties for crimes committed during a riot.
He was a leader in states banning vaccination records and signed a new electoral law that included restrictions on dropboxing and postal voting.

DeSantis is clearly the front runner when it comes to possibly replacing Trump in 2024 as its credentials – especially this new bill for big tech and social media – speak for themselves.
When the former president throws his hat back into the ring at the next election, he will have made it clear that DeSantis will be considered as his comrade-in-arms.
