The consultant of the state of Texas urges the Democrats to cross electoral reform to fight voter suppression

Speaking to CNN, Texas State representative Jessica González (D) called on the Democrats and the Biden government to pass comprehensive electoral reform to combat voter repression efforts.

When he addressed the Republican Party’s recent efforts to suppress voters in Texas and spoke after the Democrats left the grounds of Texas House to block the passage of a restrictive suffrage bill, González was firm.

“We did our part to stop this terrible electoral repression law in Texas, and now the Texas Democrats and the Senate Democrats are calling on the President [Joe] Biden plans to use the filibuster to get the John Lewis Voting Rights Act passed immediately and use our democratic majority to stop these voter suppression bills across the country,” She said.

González called on President Biden to work for the immediate eradication of the filibuster.

“Texas Democrats, we are in the minority,” she said, “and that’s the only way we can ensure that all Texans, as well as other people in states across the country that make similar laws, are protected.

Texas had tried to join states like Georgia, which had accepted former President Donald Trump’s lies about the fraudulent 2020 general election, and tried to impose restrictions that make it difficult for citizens to exercise their right to vote.
