Rep. Swalwell said on CNN, “We haven’t heard anything. And we have a lot of questions and answers that we expect. Jim, this is unacceptable. Anyone involved should be fired and leave the department immediately because, Jim, look. This is not a 500 year flood. Donald Trump is not going away. He – Trumpism and corruption are manifesting themselves right now with others in government. And next time, they may not be patient enough to wait for an investigation. A more corrupt president can just go straight to the point and imprison his political opponents without trying to get the Justice Department to do so. So we should make it very clear that we are not doing that in this country. “
Rep. Swalwell is right. Trump is gone, but the corruption he introduced remains. Attorney General Garland has good motives and intentions, but it is unacceptable that someone in the Justice Department has not turned to Swalwell to answer his questions.
The espionage scandal provides the fuel and pressure on AG Garland to do what he should have done the day he became attorney general. It’s time to clean up and sanitize the DOJ. A change in leadership at the top is not enough to undo the damage Trump and Barr have done.
Congress will investigate, but Garland must act immediately.
