Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell praised President Biden for the infrastructure bill in a clear message to Trump.
Mitch McConnell gives Biden credit for infrastructure bill
McConnell said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal: “There is nothing better than a presidential signatory promise when you are in the same party as the president. I think the President deserves a lot of credit for getting the Democrats to reach a bipartisan agreement on this bill. “
When the WSJ asked McConnell about Trump, he declined to answer, saying he was focused on the future.
Mitch McConnell made no secret of his desire to have Trump charged with a crime and chased out of the Republican Party, and paying tribute to Biden for something Trump could never do as President is a loud response to Trump’s efforts to win over minority leaders in the Senate from the GOP.
Filibuster fears led Republicans to compromise on infrastructure
The Republicans in the Senate have compromised on infrastructure because they are concerned that the Democrats will kill the filibuster.
The infrastructure compromise gave McConnell cover to continue to suggest that things are okay in the Senate while holding on to Donald Trump and bringing his old friend President Joe Biden a big win.
